Stage 1 · Measure
The room as it is, not as drawn.
Four kinds of work for homes and small commercial spaces, measured before quoting.
Walls are rarely square and floors are rarely level, which is why stock units end up with scribe fillers and gaps. We measure the room as it actually is, build to that, and scribe to the walls on installation so it looks like part of the house rather than something delivered to it.
The room as it is, not as drawn.
Layout and materials agreed with you.
In the shop, to those dimensions.
Scribed and levelled on site.
Use, dimensions and the space it lives in.
Samples, with honest ageing notes.
With joinery suited to the use.
Chosen for how it will be used.
Most commissions start because nothing available is the right size. We talk through proportions, timber and finish, show you samples, and are honest about what a species will look like in five years — some darken considerably, and it is better to know beforehand.
In an older house the hard part is matching what is already there, because the profile has not been made commercially for decades. We can copy an existing profile and run new stock to match, so an extension or a repair does not announce itself.
A short length of the existing profile.
Cutters ground or profile copied.
New stock milled to match.
Fitted and finished to blend.
What is wrong and what caused it.
Repair, restore, or let it go.
Joints, timber and structure first.
Matched to the rest of the piece.
A great deal gets replaced that could be repaired for less, particularly older furniture built better than most of what would replace it. We will tell you honestly when a repair is worth it and when the piece has reached the end — including when the honest answer costs us the job.
A free measure and an itemised written quote, with no obligation.
