Measure as built
Not as drawn, and not as assumed.
Because stock cabinets come in fixed widths and your wall does not.
Rooms are not square, floors are not level and walls bow. Stock cabinetry is designed around the fiction that they are, which is why installations end with scribe fillers, packers and a strip of wasted space that nobody mentions in the showroom.
Building to measured dimensions removes most of that, and scribing on site removes the rest. It is slower and it is the entire difference between furniture that sits in a room and joinery that looks like part of the building.
The other thing worth being straight about is the material. Timber varies between boards, darkens at different rates by species, and moves with humidity — which in Florida means real seasonal movement. Explaining that before a commission prevents a conversation months later about a gap that was always going to appear.
